Nursery Hours Entitlement

All children aged 3-4 are entitled to 15 hours free Nursery provision in school term time from the start of the term following their 3rd birthday. Some children may now be entitled to 30 free hours, if parents meet the Government’s eligibility criteria. Please note, this does not mean we will be able to automatically offer your child a place to start with us the term after their third birthday.

You can find out more information about eligibility for 30 hours by visiting the Lancashire Wraparound Care for Families and check your eligibility using the Government’s Childcare Calculator.

Nursery Fees

If you do not qualify for one of the government funded childcare schemes or you simply wish to top up your child’s nursery sessions, the following fees apply:

Morning Session – £13.50

Afternoon Session – £13.50
Nursery is open term time only 8:45am – 3:30pm

For those children attending a full day session and requiring a school dinner, the cost is £2.70.

(We request that parents pay their fees on-line through ‘Parent pay’, which is very simple and straightforward school payment method. For more information, please contact the school office.)

Our Nursery Day

The nursery is open during term time and adopts the same term time dates used by the school, which often makes it much simpler for those families that have siblings in nursery and in school.

We open our doors at 8.45am and offer a combination of morning and afternoon half day sessions, as well as a full day session, whereby we will work with yourselves to help choose the right combination of sessions to suit the needs of your child, as this can often vary as they begin to grow and develop in preparation for school life.

The Nursery Curriculum

We recognise that every child is unique and ensure that each child has a voice, and is able to develop and learn in their own way.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to monitor and assess children’s development  using a child led approach which embraces our children’s interests, key life events, and ‘In The Moment’ learning opportunities.

Children are unique and will learn and develop at different stages and different rates across each of the areas of learning, where we ensure that the nursery provision and activities are tailored to meet the needs of the individual child, offering a fun, stimulating, happy, safe and secure environment in which to learn. We want children to encourage to be happy and confident in their love for learning as they carry on their educational journey into school.

We have a Communication Friendly learning environment to support all children in their development, particularly those with additional needs; who are also supported by our highly qualified and focused Pastoral and SEND team.

Our children benefit from having fantastic and smooth transition from nursery to reception. Our EYFS team work closely to ensure a smooth transition for all. This includes visits to class, Key Person to Key Person information sharing sessions and parent meetings. And ultimately ensures children enter reception at school ready and happy to learn.

The government produced a document entitled, ‘What to expect, when? Guidance to your child’s learning and development in the early years foundation stage.

https://www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2015/03/4Children_ParentsGuide_2015_WEB.pdf

In September 2021, the new Early Years framework was introduced. Learning activities will be based around supporting your child’s development across the 7 areas of the Early Years curriculum:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Each term, learning is centred around a particular topic, however, sometimes we decide to structure learning activities around children’s interests. When your child starts with us, you will have access to our online learning platform, ClassDojo, which will keep you up to date with our topics and what your child will be learning at school, as well as key information and events.

Meet The Team

Our EYFS manager, Mrs. Davies has a wealth of experience in managing early years settings.

Mrs. Davies’s approach to Early Years education is deeply aligned with our school’s core values of Pride, Intrepidness, and No Limits. She is dedicated to building a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment in our EYFS classroom, where children are encouraged to explore, discover, and achieve their fullest potential.

Through her leadership, Mrs. Davies cultivates a strong sense of community and collaboration within the Early Years team, ensuring our youngest pupils receive the support and guidance they need to flourish. She works closely with parents and carers, recognizing the essential role they play in their child’s education and development.

Continuing the Learning Journey

As a nursery we are very much a part of the early years unit at Rivington and our children families are strongly supported by all the staff within the school, to ensure that they are made to feel part of our school family. Our Headteacher, Mrs. Annette and Head of Early Years, Mrs. Davies work in partnership with our nursery team to support the children’s learning and development, in ensuring that they achieve their full potential and positive outcomes.

Preparing and supporting our children on their learning journey is vital, whether that be initially starting nursery, moving nursery rooms or the transition into school. We work closely with all staff and parents from an early stage to ensure that each transition is made as seamless as possible for all children. The majority of children choose to continue their education with Rivington Primary School.
