Design Technology

‘Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At Rivington, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.’

Using creativity and imagination, pupils learn to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Children use a range of materials such as textiles, construction materials and food. As part of their work with food, all pupils will learn how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks and keep safe, to become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.
